Introduction

The University administration has made it mandatory for all lab, technical, veterinary, research staff and students exposed to chemical/radiation and biological hazards to undergo safety trainings that are applicable to them based on the job scope and associated hazards. In addition, the University administration has also made it mandatory for the Principal Investigators/supervisors who are supervising such individuals to undergo relevant safety trainings.

Compulsory for:

  • ALL new NUS staff identified to be working in laboratories

This training will give a general overview of safety and health in the laboratories. This includes information of local legislations, NUS requirements, and what staff have to do to be compliant with these requirements.

This training must be completed PRIOR to performing activities in the laboratory.

Radiation Safety (Ionizing)

Compulsory for the following individuals

1 All lab, technical, veterinary and research staff who are performing activities* involving use of ionizing radiation sources like radioactive materials or radiation producing machines. This would include Research Fellows (RF) and Research Assistants (RA)

Compulsory for all staff. Plans to include students in late 2013.

Any personnel who had previously attended the Fire Safety Education Course or the Fire Safety Refresher Course is exempted from taking this online training.
